It has now emerged that former Interior CS Fred Matiang'i left the country on Sunday, February 19. 

Fresh details have now emerged indicating that former Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang'i left the country on Sunday, February 19.  

In a letter addressed to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) on Tuesday, February 28, Matiang'i left Kenya through the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport on KLM flight KL566 destined for Amsterdam, Netherlands.  

"The subject departed on February 19, 2023, through JKIA on KLM flight number KL566," part of the letter reads. 

United Democratic Alliance (UDA) Senator Kiprotich Arap Cherargei now wants the officers who cleared the former interior cabinet secretary investigated. 

The Nandi senator said that Matiang'i should not have been cleared for travel on the grounds he was under investigation. 

"There is should be immediate investigations into any officers who cleared CS Matiangi to travel yet he is under investigation by various agencies. reshuffling/administrative action should be taken & immediate repatriation of CS Matiangi back to Kenya to face the law/music," Cherargei tweeted.

The details emerged hours after the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) wrote to the Head of Public Service Felix Koskei seeking information about the wealth declaration of former Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i.

"The Commission is carrying out investigations involving Dr. Fred Matiangi, former Cabinet Secretary for Interior and Coordination of National Government. Pursuant to Section 30(1) (4) (b) of the Public Officers Ethics Act, the Commission wishes to request for Certified Copies of Declaration of Income, Assets, and Liabilities forms for the years 2012 to 2022, including the initial and final declarations. Our officers Mr. Abdul Low and Mr. Paul Mugwe will be available to collect the documents,” the letter read in part.
