Gachagua stated the government cannot engage in talks with someone who is leading protests and destroying property.

Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has stated that the Kenya Kwanza government would not dialogue with Azimio la Umoja leader Raila Odinga.

In an update via Twitter on Friday, March 24, Gachagua stated the government cannot engage in talks with someone who is leading protests and destroying property.

“We cannot dialogue with someone who is leading protesters in destroying the property of other Kenyans for selfish gains,” said Gachagua.

The Second in Command on Thursday stated that the clergy is pushing the Government to hold talks with the former Prime Minister but stated that they won’t submit to the pressure.

“Viongozi wa kanisa wanatusukuma ati tukue na mazungumzo na Raila na tumesema haiwezekani. Sisi hatuwezi zungumza na mhalifu huyu mtu hakuna maandamano alikua amepanga alikua anataka kuharibu mali ya wanainchi na hatuwezi kukaa chini nayeye hata tuskumwe na viongozi wa dini,” he stated.

Raila has also maintained that he does not want a handshake with the current regime noting that it would be an insult to the intelligence of Kenyans.

“Kenya Kwanza has continued to claim that all we are looking for is a handshake. We emphatically refute the unfounded rumors that we are protesting to improve the lives of Kenyans because we want a handshake. This is an insult to the intelligence of Kenyans. We cannot and we will not participate in a handshake with an illegitimate regime,” Raila stated on Thursday.
