Raila on Sunday called off his anti-government demonstrations but warned of a resumption should the engagement fail to bear fruit.

Interior Cabinet Secretary Kithure Kindiki has weighed in on President William Ruto and Azimio la Umoja One Kenya Alliance leader Raila Odinga’s truce.

In a statement on Monday, April 3, Kindiki stated that it should not be about who is right or wrong but about the interests that matter to the people and the country.

“It should never be about who is right or who is wrong. It must always be about our Homeland and the interest of its people,” Kindiki tweeted.

His sentiments come after President Ruto and Raila agreed to hold a bi-partisan engagement in Parliament to resolve the issue of the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) reconstitution.

Raila on Sunday called off his anti-government demonstrations but warned of a resumption should the engagement fail to bear fruit.

“In view of the foregoing, we stand down our demonstrations on Monday, April 3, 2023. We reserve our rights to call for demonstrations should this process fail to bear fruit, should there be no meaningful engagement or response from Ruto our counteroffer is to continue with our demonstrations after one week,” the ODM leader announced.

President Ruto earlier directed the Kenya Kwanza Parliamentary leadership to consider the bipartisan approach to addressing the matters raised by the Opposition as a priority.
