Kakamega Senator Boni Khalwale has called out Mukumu Girls High School Principal for blaming the media for the woes facing the institution.

In her letter to parents, Mrs Fridah Ndolo said the school had to be closed because of the toxic environment created by the media.

"This is to inform you that following consultations with the Ministry of Education directors and TSC directors, it has been decided that students break off to heal from the toxic environment created by the media," she said.

“Kindly ensure your daughter receives medical attention and report with a medical report on any underlying issue from the ministry of health from a government hospital,” she further wrote.

Mukumu Girls High School Gate

In a rejoinder to the statement, Khalalwe equated the remarks to impunity.

"In her letter to parents following the closure of our iconic Mukumu Girls High School, the principal, unblinking, blames what she calls toxic media for the closure of the school! If impunity had a face," Khalwale said.

Khalwale had a student at Mukumu Girls High School who did her KCSE exam in 2022.

The Senator toured the school on Monday in the company of Kakamega county MP Elsie Muhanda during which they lauded the move to have the school closed.

The school was shut down after two students died and 500 others were hospitalised for allegedly consuming contaminated water and intoxicated food.

The school was closed indefinitely to allow for an investigation into the matter.
