According to the National Assembly deputy speaker, planting trees sets off the journey to lowering the cost of living.

Uasin Gishu woman representative Gladys Shollei now says the cost of living can somehow be tackled through environmental care.

According to her, the unpredictable weather patterns have affected farming thus the inadequate food supplies in the country.

The inadequacy supplies have in turn occasioned the exorbitant pricing in commodities such as maize flour, she suggested.

To solve this, Shollei says, forest cover must be increased so that the rains can be guaranteed to farmers.

The drought has been due to lack of trees and consequently reduced rains.

She argues that the mass action protests called by the opposition would not solve the cost of living.

"I say to Kenyans, the cost of Unga will come down if we increase our forest cover to avoid drought… Not Maandamano!” she said.
