Azimio has tabled new demands to President Ruto over the current financial crisis

Azimio la Umoja One Kenya Alliance coalition has issued new demands to President William Ruto over the current financial crisis.

In a statement by National Assembly Minority Leader Opiyo Wandayi on Tuesday, April 11, Azimio demanded that a committee of finance experts and legislators be formed urgently to examine the government's expenditure and other key government institutions.

“We need a committee of legislators and finance experts to urgently examine the expenditure regime, administration, and policies obtained at the National Treasury, the Kenya Revenue Authority, Registrar of Persons, Kenya Airports Authority, Kenya Ports Authority, and associated public bodies in the revenue generation and collection chain.

“That committee should also examine and come up with a coherent explanation of where we are, how we got here, and the government's response which, so far, borders on gross neglect and dereliction of duty,” read the statement in part.

Azimio asked the Head of State to revoke appointments of government officials who have been linked to corruption to avoid graft scandals.

The Raila Odinga-led coalition also asked President Ruto to cut on expenditures especially on money being spend during relief food distribution and during domestic and international travel.

“Ruto must cut or completely abolish money being spent on political operations that are disguised as relief food distribution or fundraisers. It makes no sense at all for a Cabinet secretary or a principal secretary to spend Ksh20 million on it chopper to distribute 1 million shillings worth of food.

“Unnecessary domestic and international travel, conferences and workshops, training must not only end but must be seen to have ended,” Azimio stated.

Additionally, Azimio asked the government to guarantee Kenyans that no money is being printed to fund the salaries of civil servants.
