Seven people are feared dead after ACK Guu Secondary School bus overturned at the Pala Homa Hills Junction along Homa Bay - Kendu Bay road.

The school bus was transporting mourners to a funeral in West Karachuonyo when it overturned while trying to avoid a head-on collision with a truck.

The police officers managed to rescue thirty-two passengers who were on the bus.

The injured have been rushed to the Kendu Bay sub-county hospital for medical care while those who died have been taken to Gendia Mission Hospital mortuary.

The accident comes weeks after Transport CS Kipchumba Murkomen announced several measures to curb increased road crashes in Kenya.

Murkomen in a statement on April 19, directed speed limiter vendors to install approved gadgets that will limit speeds and record speed data after every five seconds.

“In compliance with KS 22932018 all the 57 licensed speed limiter vendors MUST install approved gadgets that will limit speed, record speed data after every 5 seconds, transmit data to both the NTSA and the vendor servers and report violations in real-time,” he stated.

The former Senator also directed school vans, buses, and matatus that are unroadworthy will be removed from the roads.

Murkomen further stated that a multi-agency clinic would be formed to ensure public service vehicles operate with functional speed limiters.
