"$500 is cheap for a big university. Pay and I'll bring the page," the hacker said.

The hacker running Kabarak University's Facebook page has admitted the takeover.

The page landed in the custody of the individual last week and has since then been posting content unrelated to the varsity and its operations.

He claimed that he is a technology geek who schools at an IT-based school in Jakarta, Indonesia.

The Indonesian said he would not return the page to its owners until he is paid $500, equivalent to Ksh 68,000.

"Hello everyone, here I just want to clarify about this account that was hacked, to be honest I was just having fun so don't take the posts I publish seriously, once again I'm sorry

"I also have another option, you guys just give me 500$ , and I'll bring this page back, the offer is cheap for a big university," he posted on the same page.

The university based in Nakuru is yet to issue a statement on the matter.

This came weeks after Chief Administrative Secretaries in the Ministry of ICT Dennis Itumbi lost his Twitter account to hackers.

The Twitter account had over 2.1 million followers.

The account name changed to Arbitrum while the user name and the cover image remained that of Itumbi.

The CAS confirmed that the account was hacked by a group associated with Crypto Currency.

"Hackers. Have taken up my Twitter account. The hackers are associated with Crypto Currency. Yes, I own a few bitcoin, I bought them when they were selling at 60k. Google how much one bitcoin exchanges now," Itumbi said.

He, however, said he will recover his account in the fullest of time.

He also revealed that they tried to hack his email, Instagram and Facebook accounts but he caught up with them before the plot could become a success.

"As for my account, it shall be restored shortly, they tried my email, Instagram and FB too, but I got them before they could. Brutal welcome and a clear message on Cyber Security. For now Hackers 1 - Itumbi 0. In the fullness of time that score will be something else," he added.

He would later be lucky to get the account back.
