"The house is independent of the executive."

National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetang'ula has dismissed reports that the National Assembly is working for the executive.

Speaking on Thursday, June 1 in Embu County, Wetangula stated that the house is independent and is not influenced by the executive in doing its mandate.

He noted that the members of the National Assembly despite being political players vote as individuals.

"The house is independent of the executive. The house consists of political players and so you have to mix the two because the political players have caucuses outside the house but come and vote as individuals. You must be alive to that," said Wetangúla.

The Nationals Assembly Speaker at the same time stated that the country should focus on social transformation and uplift the lives of common citizens.

“What we should focus on at sixty is what social transformation do we give to our country. How do we get rid of abject poverty in our country, provide clean water, sound, decent health care, education for all, and all these issues that we have been talking about for the last 60 years?

“I think it’s time to take a new trajectory reduce unnecessary arguments in our politics and focus on how to uplift the lives of our people,” he added.
