Haji succeeds Major-General (Rtd) Philip Wachira Kameru who has held the position for over eight years.

Outgoing Director of Public Prosecution Noordin Haji on Wednesday morning took the oath of office as the new Director General of the National Intelligence Service at State House, Nairobi.

The swearing-in ceremony was presided over by President William Ruto.

Addressing a small gathering that had converged for the occasion, President Ruto exuded confidence that Haji is the right man for the job.

He said the experience he has gathered over the years will be key in enabling him to discharge his mandate.

"I am confident that you have assembled the requisite knowledge, understanding and experience to be able to discharge your responsibilities," he said.

"I am looking forward to working with you together with your other colleagues in the security sector and even the other members of cabinet and government."

The president reminded Haji that as the country gears itself to a new dawn, his department will be key in providing critical information and analysis of the situation that comes with it.

"Best decisions are made if you are armed with the right information. We will be looking forward to using your offices and others to make the best possible information to our policymakers and decision-makers," he said.

"It is my hope you will make that institution better, more professional and responsive to serve the country better. The best we can do is not to personalise the institution but to make it better to serve the country beyond us."

Haji succeeds Major-General (Rtd) Philip Wachira Kameru who has held the position for over eight years.

Kameru was appointed Director-General in September 2014 after an illustrious military career; having risen through the ranks to the position of Director of Military Intelligence in the Kenya Defence Forces (KDF).

The graced the event include Cabinet Secretaries, and Attorney General Justin Muturi among other top officials.
