The Position was left vacant after Noordin Haji was appointed Director of the National Intelligence Service.

COTU Secretary General Francis Atwoli is among the 7-member panel appointed to the selection panel that will nominate persons for the position of Director of Public Prosecution. 

The panel will be tasked with proposing names of qualified persons out of which a substantive DPP will be picked.

President William Ruto in a Gazette Notice Dated Wednesday, June 21,  also named EACC CEO Twalib Mbarak among the members.

Others are Mary Kimonye, Solicitor General Shadrack Mose, Mary Adhiambo Maungu, Roseline Odede and Richard Onsongo Bush Obwocha.

"In exercise of the powers conferred by section 8 (1) of the Office of the Director of Public Prosecution Act, 2013, I, William Samoei Ruto, President of the Republic of Kenya and Commander in Chief of the defence forces appoint the 7 members to the selection panel for the selection of nominees for appointment as the Director of Public Prosecution," the Gazette Notice read in part.

The person to be selected as the new DPP will replace Havi who is now the Director of the National Intelligence Service.

Haji has already taken office after being vetted and appointed by parliament and the President respectively.

The panel will advertise for the position and qualified Kenyans will be asked to apply.

The shortlisted candidates will be interviewed and names of potential candidates sent to the President for the nomination of substantive DPP.
