Lawyer Miguna Miguna has declared interest in the position of the Director of Public Prosecution.

Miguna has said he has already applied for the position and will be giving his best stab at the post to take it home.

"For the avoidance of any doubt, Yes, I have applied for the position of The Director of Public Prosecutions," he tweeted.

The DPP Post fell vacant after immediate office holder Noordin Haji Was appointed Director of the National Intelligence Service.

Miguna is a long-serving advocate of the High Court who has been practising for decades in Canada. 

The qualifications for appointment as Director of Public Prosecutions are the same as for the appointment as a judge of the High Court.

Public Service Commission has already advertised for the position. 

The DPP holds office for a term of eight years and shall not be eligible for re-appointment.

The Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP) is the National Prosecuting Authority in Kenya.

The Constitution mandates it to prosecute all criminal cases in the country.

The Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) is the head of the ODPP and operates independently according to Article 157 of the Constitution.

The Law gives Director of Public Prosecutions powers to direct the Inspector-General of the National Police Service to investigate any information or allegation of criminal conduct and the Inspector-General shall comply with any such direction.
