First Lady Rachel Ruto has joined an executive leadership training programme hosted by the Columbia University Mailman School of Public Health in New York City, USA. 

In an update by the Office of the First Lady on Tuesday, July 11 the programme has been running from Monday, July 10, and will run up to Thursday, July 13, 2023. 

"The Global First Ladies Academy is a new initiative that aims to support First Ladies in their work to improve health and development in their countries," part of the statement read.

Other First Ladies attending the four-day event include Jane Masisi of Botswana, Monica Chakwera of Malawi, Auxillia Mnangagwa of Zimbabwe, Fatoumatta Bah-Barrow of Gambia, Isaura Gonçalo Ferrão Nyusi of Mozambique and Monica Geingos of Namibia.

The Global First Ladies Academy is a partnership between the Columbia University Mailman School of Public Health, the Global First Ladies Alliance and the Organisation of African First Ladies for Development. 

Among the objectives of the programme is to; enhance First Lady's role as a catalyst for positive change and social transformation and deepen the First Ladies and Senior Advisors' understanding of significant global developments in a constantly changing geopolitical, economic, environmental, social and technological context.   

In addition, the programme aims to prepare the First Ladies to continue making an impact post-administration.
