Raila claimed that the unit was spotted on Wednesday last week during the anti-government protests.

Azimio la Umoja leader Raila Odinga has claimed that the Kenya Kwanza government has formed a new well-trained police unit to deal with anti-government protests and Azimio la Umoja leaders.

In a statement on Saturday, July 15, Raila said that the unit under the name Operations Support Unit (OSU) was spotted on Wednesday last week during the Azimio protests in Kamukunji, Mlolongo and Jogoo Road.

“This time around, it is not just the official security officers that are being unleashed on Kenyans. Kenya Kwanza has embedded a trained killer squad in the name of Operation Support Unit into the official security agencies and unleashed it on Kenyans.

“OSU, now under Mr. Kariuki, was disbanded a few years ago and its members sent home. The squad is back. Last Wednesday, OSU was in action in Kamkunji, Jogoo Road, and Mlolongo, firing at protesters and killing some,” Raila alleged.

The ODM leader however vowed to soldier on with the anti-government protests saying the arrests and detentions of opposition politicians are not a new thing.

“We will soldier on. Arrests, trumped up charges, illegal detentions and incarcerations have happened in the past. We have always remembered the victims as the heroes of our liberation,” Raila added.

This comes even as Interior CS Kithure Kindiki warned the opposition against chaos during the anti-government protests next week.

Speaking on Saturday in Homa Bay, Kindiki said that the government is on high alert to avert the chaos.

"My brothers in the opposition, please let's do our politics, let's put out our policies in a peaceful manner. If you think you'll hide behind a constitutional right to destroy property, killing Kenyans and meting violence on Kenyans; try that and you will regret it," he said.
