“I volunteered my time and resources to Linda Katiba. I did not ask anyone for money. I was not paid anything by anyone including William Ruto."

Activist Boniface Mwangi has threatened to move to court to sue economist David Ndii over defamation after his tweet on Sunday evening that indicated that the activist was paid with President William Ruto's campaign money during the fight against BBI under the Linda Katiba campaign.

In a statement on Monday July 17, Mwangi said he volunteered to participate at Linda Katiba and was not paid by anyone including President Ruto.

“I volunteered my time and resources to Linda Katiba. I did not ask anyone for money. I was not paid anything by anyone including William Ruto. If Ndii is ready to stand by his lies, then we will meet in court and we will see if he has the evidence to support his lies,” he said.

This comes after Mwangi through James Njeri and Co Advocates wrote to Ndii and issued a seven day ultimatum to offer a written apology or else they pursue the matter in court.

The law firm also demanded that Ndii deletes the tweet, to express commitment not to utter any defamatory remarks again Mwangi and to admit liability upon which they will discuss damages.

“Take notice that unless we receive your admission of liability within the next Seven (7) days, we have mandatory instructions to pursue legal proceedings against you for defamation,” the letter read in part.

Ndii on Sunday claimed that he formed Linda Katiba with Narc Kenya Leader Martha Karua and the support of President Ruto.

He said he paid Mwangi for his participation in the campaign that saw BBI defeated in all courts in the country.

"Time for revelations. Linda Katiba was formed by myself and Martha with Ruto's support. Martha was then a prospect for WSR's running mate. Made full disclosure which is why Makau Mutua was attacking me. Even paid Boniface from WSR campaign money. Hypocrites the whole lot," Ndii tweeted.

Karua in a rejoinder fired back at Ndii accusing him of keeping secret that he had received some funding from President Ruto.

"David Ndii I am disappointed you have joined the ranks of unmitigated liars. Throughout our collaboration in Lindakatiba, you never disclosed any funding from William Ruto or anybody else. We contributed to our expenses until the end when we secured funding from a philanthropist. If at all William Ruto funded you it was your own private affair," she responded.
