Sonko on Wednesday distributed food to police officers and demonstrators in Nairobi. 

Former Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko has appealed for peace in the country amid the ongoing anti-government demonstrations by the Opposition.  

Speaking on Wednesday, July 19 while distributing food and bottled water to anti-riot police and demonstrators, Sonko cautioned Kenyans against violent protests. 

“I’m urging the people to be peaceful and let the government work on its promises. If the young people burn this country they have nowhere to go but leaders like me have houses abroad like London and Dubai where we can relocate to,” said Sonko.

However, Sonko admitted that the cost of living has gone high but appealed for patience from Kenyans on the issue. 

The Opposition's antigovernment's protests kicked off on Wednesday and they are scheduled to go on until Friday. Several Opposition leaders were arrested. 

Narc Kenya Party Leader Martha Karua condemned the arrest of Azimio la Umoja leaders and close associates by the police.

In a statement on Wednesday, July 19, Karua stated that the whereabouts of Embakasi East Member of Parliament Babu 

“We condemn in the strongest terms possible the arrests and or abductions of Azimio leaders and close associates of leaders without any colour of right or the slightest justification.

“Last night Hon. Babu Owino MP Embakasi East was arrested by police and is being held incommunicado. His whereabouts remain unknown. Today hon Ken Chonga MP Kilifi South and Hon. Teddy Mwambire, Speaker Kilifi County have been arrested and detained in an unknown place,” Karua stated. 

Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna affirmed that the demos would only end if President William Ruto addresses the high cost of living.
