Attempts by journalists to defend themselves on grounds that they were covering the proceedings fell flat.

Journalists covering the arraignment of Embakasi East MP Babu Owino at the Milimani Law Courts on Friday were roughed up by police officers.

Video seen by Nairobi Leo showed police officers pushing the journalists out of court even as some were pushed to the ground in the commotion that ensued.

Attempts by journalists to defend themselves on grounds that they were covering the proceedings fell flat on the police officers who ordered them to vacate the courts.

"Toa hiyo watu. Toka Nani. Toka, Toka Toka.... Media kitu gani," the police are heard instructing the journalists.

Babu Owino and his co-accused among them Raila Odinga's supporter Calvin Gaucho were presented before Millimani Law Courts on Friday for their bail ruling.

Here is the Video of the Incident:

They had first appeared in court on Thursday and the judge ordered they be held for a night to give him time to write a ruling.

On Friday morning, they were brought back during which Milimani Law Courts magistrate Lukas Onyina released them on Sh100,00 bail and or an alternative bond of Sh200,000.

Justice Onyina ruled that the prosecution did not provide enough proof that if the accused are released, they will interfere with witnesses.

"A look at the affidavit does not disclose compelling reasons to deny the accused person bond, each of the accused persons is granted a bond of Sh 200,000 with an alternative cash bail of Sh 100,000," Milimani chief magistrate Lukas Onyina ruled.

Babu Owino and Gaucho had been charged with conspiracy to commit subversive activities.

Others Charged with similar offences are Tom Odondo, Michael Otieno, Pascal Ouma, Kevin Wambo and Willys Owino.

All were released on a similar amount of cash bail and bond terms.
