"It is petty, vengeful and unacceptable for William Ruto's illegitimate regime to target Uhuru’s mother Mama Ngina Kenyatta and son Jomo."

Political leaders in the country have weighed in on the police raid at the home of former President Uhuru Kenyatta's eldest son, Jomo Kenyatta on Friday evening.

The raid was confirmed by Interior CS Kithure Kindiki who said police have been conducting an operation at Karen homes to hunt for weapons allegedly used to cause mayhem during protests.

While leaders allied to the Azimio coalition have condemned the current regime for the raid, those affiliated with the Kenya Kwanza government have fingered Uhuru for the blame.

Narc Kenya leader Martha Karua in a tweet blasted President Ruto's regime saying it is wrong and unacceptable for them to target the family of the former President that way.

"It is petty, vengeful, and unacceptable for William Ruto's illegitimate regime to target Uhuru’s mother Mama Ngina Kenyatta, and son Jomo, and to ceaselessly subject Uhuru the 4th president to unwarranted verbal diatribe. This must stop now #EnoughIsEnough,"  Karua tweeted.

Similar sentiments were shared by activist Boniface Mwangi who questioned Ruto why he was targeting the family of the former President yet he asked him a year ago to spare his children.

"July 2022 the then Deputy President Ruto asked President Uhuru not to harm his children. In July 2023, immediate Kenya’s President Uhuru is asking Ruto to leave his mother and children alone. Power is transient. We truly live in a petty, vengeful mafia country! Help us Lord," he tweeted.

However, leaders allied to President Ruto have brushed off the remarks by Uhuru asking him to retire in peace and quit active politics.

National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetangula appealed to Uhuru to emulate former President Daniel Moi and Kibaki and enjoy his retirement.

"Rtd President Uhuru Kenyatta cast away your unhelpful rage and vitriol, borrow a leaf each from Rtd President(s) Moi and Kibaki and enjoy peace, calm and much more in retirement! Politics will ensnare you!" Wetangula tweeted.

Trade and Investment CS Moses Kuria in an apparent jibe at Uhuru said;

"To a Prince who got accustomed to being saluted by 5 Star Generals from the day they were born, absence of praise and worship from subservient subjects is tantamount to harassment and oppression."
