“M-PESA services on the M-PESA and Safaricom apps are currently unavailable."

Safaricom has addressed the current outage affecting Mpesa services on the telco's apps. 

Speaking to Nairobileo.co.ke on Thursday, July 27, Safaricom confirmed that the M-PESA services are unavailable on their Apps. 

The company however said Kenyans can make M-PESA transactions through *344# as it is working to restore the apps. 

“M-PESA services on the M-PESA and Safaricom apps are currently unavailable. We are working to restore our apps, in the meanwhile, you can make M-PESA transactions through *334#. We do apologize for any inconveniences caused,” a source told this journalist.

At the same, the Kenya Power and Lighting Company (KPLC) has issued a statement over a system hitch affecting purchasing of prepaid tokens.

KPLC has however advised Kenyans they can still buy tokens from the company's banking halls or Airtel money.

“We are experiencing a system hitch due to a network breakdown from our service provider. Consequently, some of our services such as the purchase of prepaid tokens through M-Pesa and USSD Code *977# are unavailable, “the company stated.

“However, customers can purchase tokens from our banking halls, Airtel Money, and authorised banks.”

A number of government services have also been affected after a cyber attack on the e-Citizen Portal.

ICT CS Eliud Owalo has however assured Kenyans that the government is working around the clock to addressing the hack adding that they would 'build something that will not be hacked in the future."

The ICT ministry is said to be racing against time to restore services and ensure that normalcy is back.
