According to the lawyer, the EACC should go for state officers fleecing Kenyans millions instead of police officers with meagre salaries.

Lawyer Ahmednasir Abdullahi has faulted the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) for scheming against the police in its war against graft.

The attorney was disturbed that the anti-graft body finds pleasure in going for the underpaid law enforcement agents caught soliciting bribes while turning blind on high ranking state officers who fleece taxpayers huge amounts of money.

"All Kenyans of goodwill, led by Inspector General of Police Japheth Koome, must fight and stop this malicious and discriminatory scheme that targets the police.

"Why is the EACC obsessed with police officers who earns Kshs 30,000 a month? What is this madness and obsession with the small fish? When will EACC go after the Governors, judges, Cabinet Secretaries of this government and the previous administration who steal/stole billion?" he posed.

He suggested the police solicit the bribes to compliment their meagre salaries.

"Leave the police officers and do your job proper...go after those who steal tens of Millions daily...not the police officer who gets 500 shillings to buy unga for his 5 kids," he said.

Policewoman Wambui Muiruri is on the spot for soliciting bribe.

Ahmednasir's sentiments were a reaction to the EACC's move to push for prosecution of a policewoman found asking for bribes.

According to the EACC, Wambui Muiruri, an inspector in charge of the Zimmerman Police Post, was busted in 2021 soliciting a bribe from a Nairobi man who sought release of his detained fiance.

The Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) adopted the EACC's recommendations to have Wambui face two counts of soliciting and receiving a bribe.

She was arrested on July 27 but released on a cash bail.

Wambui was to appear in court on Friday, July 28, but failed due to an illness.

The matter will be up for mention on August 9.
