President William Ruto's speech at the African Climate Summit being held at Kenyatta International Conference Centre occasioned a moment of laughter.

The president, seemingly in jest, told guests to be weary of wild animals in Nairobi, specifically lions, saying they should be careful in case they encounter any.

He said though the Nairobi National Park is fenced, the wild animals oftentimes find their way out of the park and roam around some estates in Nairobi.

"While you are doing your morning walks within Nairobi, you might encounter a lion. Be careful, they are not tamed, they are wild. We have a national park here," the President said amidst laughter from the delegates who graced the function.

The five-day climate summit being held in Nairobi is a partnership between Kenya and the African Union.

The summit begins on September 4 and will end on September 9.

Over 30,000 delegates including over 25 heads of state and government are expected to attend the event.

The summit is expected to also look into ways of helping African countries vulnerable to adverse effects of climate change cope with the same.

It will also serve as a platform to inform, frame, and influence commitments, pledges, and outcomes, ultimately leading to the development of the Nairobi Declaration.
