“At least you have learned some lesson from home I told you this is home right?”

President William Ruto on Wednesday, September 6 taught the African Climate Summit (ACS) delegates Swahili words as the summit ends. 

Addressing the delegates at KICC, Nairiobi, President Ruto taught them how to say hello and how are things in the Swahili language.

“I gave you some lessons… let me do it again when I say jambo you say jambo, hallo, hallo….when I say mambo, how are things, you say poa, you say things are cool in fact poa means cool,” Ruto told the delegates as they repeated after him in unison.

The Head of State also taught the African Climate Summit delegates how to say thank you in Swahili.

“One final lesson, how to say thank you, you say asante you can add asante sana. Thank you very much can we go ahsante?” Ruto asked the delegates to which they replied sana.

“At least you have learned some lesson from home I told you this is home right?” Ruto posed.

At the same time, he told the delegates to return to their countries with their heads held high after the success of the summit. 

“After our declaration let us go home satisfied with a job very well done, proud of the progress we have made, and eager to embark on the next phase of our transformation everywhere in our continent. I know we have come from different corners of our continent please go home with your head very high you have done very well congratulations,” Ruto stated.

The Climate Summit began on Monday 4 September and brought together 12 former heads of state and government and their deputies, 66 ministers from various countries, and more than 20 heads of international organisations. 

The United Nations Secretary-General and the President of the European Union also attended the summit.
