The Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) Party has made changes to its leadership following the resignation and defection of former holders of the positions.

The party in a statement on Friday, September 8 noted that Kisii Governor Simba Arati will take over the role of the Deputy National Chairperson replacing former Kisii Women Representative Janet Ong’era.

Busia Women Representative Catherine Omanyo will assume the role of Deputy Secretary General replacing Florence Mutua.

Saboti Member of Parliament Caleb Amisi has been named as the new ODM Deputy Organizing Secretary and will replace former Kwale Women Rep Zulekha Hassan.

In other changes, Migori Senator Eddie Oketh was appointed as the Secretary for Humanitarian and Disaster Management Affairs taking over from Bob Njagi.

Fatuma Mutiso was named as the Deputy National Treasurer and Elise Muhanda the Secretary for Security. Mutiso and Muhanda will replace Olga Karani and Justus Kizito respectively.

The changes come a day after the ODM National Executive Committee (NEC) expelled MPs; Phelix Odiwuor Kodhe (Lang’ata), Elisha Ochieng’ Odhiambo (Gem), Caroli Omondi (Suba South), Gideon Ochanda (Bondo) and Tom Ojienda (Senator of Kisumu County) from the party.

The five MPs were accused of openly associated with and supported activities of a rival political party which is a violation of the ODM party constitution.

The committee also fined Uriri MP Mark Nyamita and Rongo MP Paul Abuor Ksh1 million to be paid within sixty days over the same accusations.

Nairobi Women Rep Esther Passaris was fined Ksh 250,000 over supporting the Finance Bill 2023 at the National Assembly.
