Lamu county has been a key operational area of the al-Shabaab militia who have been terrorising residents and staging attacks against the police.

Such attacks have left several people dead including police officers.

These attacks have left schools closed and non-local teachers opting to vacate the place for safety reasons.

The Kenyan forces have however intensified more patrols even as the government vows to crush the terror group.

The al-Shabaab militia are believed to have secured Boni forest as their hideout and operational area.
