The position was vacant for a year after Cyrus Oguna resigned in October 2022.

President William Ruto has appointed former nominated Senator Isaac Mwaura as the new government spokesperson.

According to a dispatch from the State House on Wednesday, October 4, the Head of State made the appointment on a recommendation from the Public Service Commission (PSC).

President Ruto at the same time appointed Gabriel Muthuma and Mwanaisha Chizudga to deputize Mwaura.

The former senator will now take over from former government spokesperson Cyrus Oguna who resigned from the position in October 2022 to take up the position of Chief of Staff for Siaya Governor James Orengo.

Mwaura had earlier been appointed as the Chief Administrative Secretary (CAS) under the office of the Prime Cabinet Secretary.

Despite being sworn in to office, Mwaura was yet to start discharging his duties after the High Court ruled the CAS position as unconstitutional.

Muthuma on the other hand is a renowned political commentator while Chizudga is a veteran media personality who has worked for a number of media houses in Kenya.

The appointments follow a cabinet reshuffle that saw President William Ruto transfer and functions and reconstitute some ministries.

Moses Kuria was moved from the Trade Ministry to Public Service, performance, and Delivery Management while CS Alfred Mutua was transferred from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to the Ministry of Tourism and Wildlife.

The Foreign Affairs docket was moved to the office of the Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi.

Ruto moved CS Zacharia Njeru to the Ministry of Water and Sanitation replacing CS Alice Wahome who was deployed to the Ministry of Lands, Public Works, housing and Urban Development.
