"12 months later, I’m still waiting," Miguna tells President Ruto.

Lawyer Miguna Miguna now wants President William Ruto to fulfill his promise and ensure those who participated in his deportation and ill-treatment under the Jubilee regime are held to account.

In a statement via Twitter on Thursday, October 5, Miguna noted that he was still waiting for the case to be resolved as promised by the Head of State.

"In January, President William Ruto apologised to me over barbaric torture, forced exile, and horrendous treatment I suffered at the hands of the government he served as deputy president.

"He promised to have all the cases relating to those abuses resolved. 12 months later, I’m still waiting," Miguna stated.

Lawyer Miguna took legal action against former Interior CS Fred Matiang’i for alleged mistreatment and forced deportation in 2018.

In 2018, the High Court ruled that the state violated Miguna's rights by deporting him to Canada. Justice Chacha Mwita ordered that Miguna be paid Sh7 million for his continued violation since he was still in Canada at the time.

According to the ruling, Mwita further ruled that actions by Interior CS Fred Matiang'i and the other state officials amounted to an abuse of office.

In the ruling, Matiang'i and the then Immigration Principal Secretary Gordon Kihalangwa were to personally pay for the damages and costs.

In a further update by Miguna on Thursday, his lawyer served court papers to Matiang'i at his him in Ngong.

"Today, my process server delivered court Summons and Pleadings in HCCC 163 of 2019 to Fred Okeng’o Matiang'i at his mansion in KCB Karen Ngong Estate. Matiang’i and other defendants must answer for torture, abuse of power, malicious prosecution, forced exile, and many other crimes. Justice shall prevail no matter how long it takes," he stated.

In October 2022, Miguna, who had been in exile for over four years, was allowed back into the country after President Ruto was sworn in as the fifth president of Kenya.
