President William Ruto has fired a warning shot at those behind the Sondu clashes that have seen at least 7 people killed. 

Ruto who was on a tour of Kisumu county on Friday, October 6, said those behind the clashes will be dealt with according to the law.

He said he has instructed Interior Cabinet Secretary Kithure Kindiki to take firm action against those involved saying they will face the music.

"There are people who are taking us back and causing conflicts within the community and among neighbors. I have already told Kithure Kindiki that just as we dealt with those from North Rift and Al Shabaab, the people of Sondu here will also face the consequences," Ruto affirmed. 

The President went on to preach against tribalism saying the country should be united despite the differences that exist among people.

Ruto directed that all those involved in the planning of the deaths be arrested and jailed.

"We don't want foolishness and tribalism. We all live in one Kenya, and the Kenyan government is the government of every Kenyan. 

"I have told Kindiki to ensure that anyone who caused a citizen to lose their life must be arrested and taken to jail because killing a fellow citizen is unacceptable; they can go on that third journey, but they will go through the court process first," President Ruto remarked. 

The Directive by the President comes after CS Kindiki on Thursday transferred security chiefs at the border of Kisumu and Kericho counties in a move aimed at taming the runaway insecurity.

He at the same time ordered the deployment of specialist officers to contain the situation.

"Lives have been lost, property destroyed and civil order grossly undermined during the past two days.

"It has been decided to transfer all local security heads on both sides of the border and other security and public officers whose want of effectiveness, impartiality, and competence is deemed to have resulted in the success of the criminals," Kindiki said.

The CS is expected to announce new measures, today, October 6, 2023.
