The accident occurred after his driver veered off the road to avoid hitting a motorcycle rider.

Kenya National Union of Teachers Secretary General Collins Oyuu and his driver survived a grisly road accident on Monday morning.

The accident occurred near Kombewa on the Bondo-Kisumu route.

The accident happened after his driver veered off the road to avoid hitting a motorcycle rider.

It was then that his vehicle rolled. The two, Oyuu and his driver, escaped unhurt but the Motorcycle rider sustained injuries.

Nyanza Regional Traffic Enforcement Officer Allan Mwangi confirmed the incident and said the car overturned while avoiding a collision with the cyclist.

Knut Secretary General Collins Oyuu.

"We are investigating the accident where a cyclist was injured. The other victims escaped unhurt," he said.

The boda boda rider is hospitalised and multiple reports indicate that he is stable.

Photos of the scene of the accident showed Oyuu's vehicle turned upside down with a section of area residents milling around it.

The accident comes at a time when the boda boda sector is being fingered because of the ballooning number of accidents in the country.

The latest reforms being initiated in the transport sector by National Transport and Safety Authority seek to ensure that all boda boda operators belong to a Sacco.

The authority last week acknowledged that despite efforts being made to streamline the sector, there are still challenges even as the sector continues to grow exponentially.

Road Safety Strategy Manager Samuel Musumba said there are more than two million motorbikes registered in the country so far and the number is expected to grow as registration continues.
