Reports indicated that Pastor Ezekiel was now a free man after the case against him was closed by a Shanzu court.

The Office Directorate of Public Prosecution has denied reports that the case against Pastor Ezekiel Odero has been terminated.

Pastor Ezekiel's lawyers Cliff Ombeta and Danstan Omari had addressed the press to the effect that the case against Pastor Ezekiel was closed.

A statement by the ODPP, however, said the case is still ongoing noting that only a custodial file requiring the New Life and Prayer Centre Church Pastor to report to police had been closed.

"Contrary to the said reports, we would like to clarify that a review of the inquiry files in respect of Mr Odero is ongoing and no case against him has been closed as alleged," the ODPP stated

The ODPP says it had received an inquiry file into the case against Pastor Ezekiel hence it did not see the need for the religious leader to keep attending court or police station.

"Upon receipt of the inquiry files, the ODPP was satisfied that the court orders facilitating investigations had already served their purpose and it was needless for Mr Odero to keep attending court or the police station," the ODPP said.

"Consequently, when the matter came up for mention on Tuesday, October 31, 2023, the court closed the custodial file."

The ODPP now says they are reviewing the inquiry file and upon conclusion of the exercise, they will make a determination whether to charge the accused or not.

The  ODPP said they will only charge Pastor Ezekiel only if there is sufficient evidence to do so.
