Education Cabinet Secretary Ezekiel Machogu has disclosed that University, TVET students will start receiving their HELB loans beginning November 7.

All first-year students who recently joined university and TVETs are yet to receive funding for their fees and loans for upkeep.

In a statement,  the CS said the Higher Loans Education Board has finalized the processing of the loans for first-year students under the New Higher Education Funding Model.

"Consequently, the Ministry wishes to inform successful applicants that the funds will be disbursed to their respective universities and student accounts starting Tuesday 7th November 2023," the CS stated.

Police deployed to contain demos at Machakos University due to Helb delays.

The  CS asked students to ensure that their bank details, as provided in the application for the loans, are correct and up to date.

The communication came after students of Machakos University took to the streets on Thursday to protest over the delays in the disbursement of Helb.

The students barricaded the road even as they engaged anti-riot police in running battles.

Most students across the university had protested over the delays saying it had caused them suffering as they were unable to survive.
