Raila Odinga has cautioned all elected leaders under the Azimio la Umoja coalition.

Azimio la Umoja leader Raila Odinga has warned elected Azimio politicians against early 2027 general election campaigns.

Speaking on Wednesday, November 15 during a meeting with religious leaders in Westlands Nairobi County, Raila gave an example of a member of the Kisumu County Assembly who has already started campaigns for a parliamentary seat in 2027.

"We don't want to start early campaigns. The day other day, I went to Kisumu and met with an MCA who has announceded intentions to become a Member of Parliament in 2027. It has been a year since the MCA was elected, and he has not done any significant action.

"I advised the MCA to focus on their current role, as it will elevate him if they aspire to be an MP. He should work diligently until 2026 before starting any campaign,” said Raila.

The former Prime Minister also called out an elected MP and Senator who have also started campaigning to become governors in the 2027 polls.

Raila observed that the early campaigns will put the country in a campaigning mood and elected leaders will not deliver their promises to the electorate.

"If we proceed in that manner, we will put the country in a state of campaigning for five years, and nothing substantial will happen. Let's hold off on starting the campaigns until things settle down…We don't want to create tension in the country," the opposition leader added.

Raila at the same time questioned why the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) is yet to post Form 34-C of the 2022 general elections.

“Nobody has ever explained why the results have never been gazetted to date. We can’t live a lie every day,” he added.
