The suspects were in possession of 25 boxes with explosives worth Ksh 9 million.

Police officers in Migori county on Friday, November 17 arrested two Tanzania nationals while transporting mining explosives to Kenya.

Addressing the media, Migori County Police Commander Francis Nguli said the two did not have the necessary documents allowing them to transport the explosives into the country.

"Those ordering these things from neighboring countries know that permission for such items must be obtained from the Ministry of Mining and Blue Economy. These suspects did not have the required permit to enter our country and it is a mistake. Once the investigation is complete, they will be brought to court to answer for their actions,” said Nguli.

The Migori Police Commander revealed that they recovered about 25 boxes with explosives weighing 600 kg and valued at nine million shillings.

The explosives were found stuffed inside a Toyota Probox car which the two Tanzanians were travelling in.

Nguli at the same time said police officers along the Migori, Tanzania border are on high alert to prevent people from sneaking illegal items into the country.

“Our officers are vigilant, and we are very much alert to ensure that Migori does not become a route for passing things that do not comply with the laws of our country,” he added.
