The two officers abandoned the exam center and went to the nearby shopping center to drink alcohol.

Two police officers who were deployed to man the ongoing KCSE exams have been arrested after abandoning duty to engage in alcohol drinking.

The two who are currently held at Geta police station in Cherangany, Trans Nzoia county are said to have left  St Francis boys’ high school exam centre to go and drink alcohol in the nearby joint.

A police report indicates that the two officers delivered the Geography paper I exam papers at the school before leaving the exam center for the nearby Suwerwa shopping center for drinking.

“The matter was later reported by the examination center manager while they were escorting the said exams back to the container where the inebriated officers were arrested and placed in custody to face disciplinary action,” reads the report.

They face charges of drinking liquor while in police uniform contrary to the law.

The arrest comes a day after their colleagues in Siaya County were attacked by armed guns who also stole two rifles.

The tragedy occurred in the Alego Usonga sub-county when the officers were escorting KCSE exam papers.

The KCSE exam papers were being escorted to Mahero Secondary School in Siaya County. 

The school center manager is said to have run for safety as the officers engaged the thugs.

During the tragedy, one firearm was stolen.
