Officers attached to the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission on Saturday, December 23, arrested a Nyandarua Sub-County officer charged with enforcing the law.

The anti-graft body's officers were acting on plants from two bar owners who decried being harassed by the administrator, Joseph Kamau Gathenge, who was demanding Sh 40,000 bribe from them.

Gathenge had seized keg cylinders, keg pumps and beer from the traders and was demanding the monies in order to release the detained wares.

According to the EACC, the duo reported to its Central Regional Office in Nyeri whose officers embarked on their investigations.

They apprehended the suspect while receiving the money.

He was later booked at Ndaragua Police Station pending further action.

Gathenge was accused of taking advantage of the ongoing festive season to extort money from operators of entertainment joints under the pretext of enforcing regulatory compliance.
