Equity Bank Chief Executive Officer (CEO) James Mwangi has been named one of the most influential Africans in 2023.

Mwangi was named in the class of business movers by the premier magazine ‘New African’.

The New African described Mwangi as having achieved iconic status for his transformative leadership of Africa’s banking sector.

"Under his leadership Equity Bank, from very humble beginnings, has grown into a sub-regional giant on the back of a determined policy to extend financial inclusion to the majority that had been excluded. Equity was one of the first lenders in Kenya to scrap minimum account balances, and the first to introduce agency banking in Kenya," they described Equity Bank CEO.
