The Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) has dismissed social media reports that it has assigned field marshals to carry out census for household appliances across the country.

In a statement on Thursday, January 4, KRA warned the public against falling for the fake reports.

“Fake news! Don’t be a victim of misinformation,” the authority stated.

According to the fake reports, the tax man will asses household appliances with filed tax returns.

“In order to better manage and improve tax compliance, KRA will, on the beginning of 2024, assign its field marshals in every county of Kenya the task of inspecting and carrying out a census for each and every household appliance found, and will start assessing them with filed tax returns,” the fake report read in part.

The report also claimed that Kenyans will be required to have an operating license for televisions failure to which they will be confiscated.

“Please also note that starting 2024, televisions will be required to have an operating license. Failure to comply with the above will lead to the confiscation of items,” the fake report added.
