The Education CEC had allegedly asked for Sh 200,000 bribe before releasing a supplier's Sh 1.8 million.

Officers attached to the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) apprehended Vihiga county executive committee member in charge of education over allegations of corruption.

Dr. Noel Malanda was caught in the EACC's dragnet as the anti-graft body's officers intensified their corruption investigations in the county government.

According to the officers, Malanda was masterminding extortion, kickbacks and other forms of corrupt conduct in her docket.

The detectives established that the suspect could be running a graft scheme where she allegedly demanded hefty kickbacks before awarding contracts and releasing payments for completed works.

The EACC established that Malanda had demanded Sh 200,000 from a trader as a kickback before approving payment of his Sh 1.8 million after he supplied ECD Certificates to the county government.

During the arrest, the Sh 400,000 was found in her office; she could not explain how she acquired the monies.

She was booked at Kisumu Port Police Station as officers from the EACC Kisumu Regional Offices on Friday, January 5.
