The lawmakers accused Gachagua of being condescending and disparaging other leaders.

Deputy President RIgathi Gachagua's popularity in Mt Kenya continues to face turbulence as leaders from the region gang up against him.

The latest to express disdain against Gachagua are two lawmakers from the region elected on UDA party tickets.

Gatanga MP Edward Muriu and Senator Joe Nyutu of Kirinyaga now want President William Ruto to consider dropping Gachagua.

According to the lawmakers, Gachagua's supposed condescending character makes him unsuitable to tag along with the president.

They hinted at sidelining the president should he seek re-election in 2027 with Gachagua as his deputy.

Gatanga MP Edward Muriu (l) and Senator Joe Nyutu of Kirinyaga have dissented from DP Gachagua.

According to Nyutu, the deputy president watered down his chances of being regarded as Mt Kenya leader owing to his attitude against leaders below him.

"Mt Kenya cannot afford to be in the hands of a condescending leader who goes about disparaging other leaders' names to higher authorities," he said.

On his part, Muriu argued that it was time the leadership of the country crossed to other Mt Kenya regions other than Nyeri and Kiambu.

They declared support for Kiharu MP Ndindoi Nyoro as their preferred candidate to deputise Ruto in the 2027 vote.

"We in Murang'a have been looking for an opportunity to rule this country, and Ndindi Nyoro is the best fit and this is our opportunity," said the Gatanga MP.
