A team of detectives has traced the last moments of Dr Laban Kiptoo, a medical at the Nakuru County Referral and Teaching Hospital, who was found dead on Saturday.

According to CCTV footage obtained by the detectives, Laban was last seen at a club in London, along the Nakuru-Kabarnet Road.

From the footage, Laban wore a black trouser, a striped t-shirt, a black jacket, and spectacles to the club.

He was accompanied by another identified person who walked into the club late at around 11 pm. They joined another group already at the club sitting at one table.

Laban was later recorded showing men on the table something on his phone before he continued scrolling.

Later, the body of Dr Laban who began interning at the hospital in August 2023, was discovered in the trenches outside of Margaret Kenyatta's Mother and Baby wing on Saturday morning.

Preliminary reports indicate that the CCTV cameras at the hospital were not working when the incident occurred.

A postmortem examination conducted on the body of an intern medical officer revealed he was strangled to death.

The doctor died due to lack of oxygen after his neck was compressed or strangled,” Government Pathologist Titus Ngulungu stated.

The incident sparked uproar compelling medics in Nakuru to down tools demanding justice.

The Kenya Medical Practitioners, Pharmacists, and Dentists Union (KMPDU) has called for a thorough investigation into the death of Dr. Laban.

“The circumstances surrounding Dr. Langat's death are shrouded in mystery, and as KMPDU, we call for an immediate and thorough investigation by the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) to establish the cause of his death. We implore the relevant authorities to expedite the process, ensuring that justice is served swiftly,” KMPDU stated.
