Following the Super Metro Bus accident at claimed 17 lives, some of the survivors have narrated their efforts to reach out to the driver before the crash.  

According to two of the survivors who spoke to the media, the driver of the ill-fated bus was speeding before ramming into a lorry along the Kisumu-Nairobi highway. 

The survivors noted that the driver was rushing to compensate for the time lost at the border during the inspection. They claimed that the driver ignored their concerns and kept on overtaking dangerously before the accident.

"We were delayed there at the border when the car was being inspected. So when he left there he was trying to compensate for the time lost. He was moving at a very high speed and overtaking," Aziz Abubakar, one of the survivors stated.

"If it was not fast, he would have controlled the incident but he was moving fast," Isa Kigundi added.

The bus was travelling from Kampala to Nairobi when the tragic accident occurred.

According to Nyanza Regional Traffic enforcer Allan Mwangi, 11 people died on the spot while six others succumbed to injuries while receiving treatment raising the number to 17.

In a separate statement, Kisumu Governor Anyang Nyong'o confirmed the incident noting that 39 people were left with injuries.

He however called on motorists to exercise caution while on the road to avoid more accidents.

On the other hand, Super Metro vowed to investigate the incident while mourning with the families of the bereaved.

"As Super Metro family, we would like to inform the public that it's so unfortunate that one of our buses plying the Kampala-Nairobi route was involved in an accident before Awasi along the Kisumu-Nairobi highway. We would wish to convey a message of condolence to the families that lost their beloved ones and quick recovery to those who are in hospital," Super Metro stated.
