DCI Gives New Update on Suspect Linked to Murder of His girlfriend in US

Kevin Kangethe, 41, who is linked to the murder of his girlfriend in the US Margaret Mbitu, was arraigned in Court on Wednesday, January 31.  

In an update by DCI on Wednesday evening, the Milimani Chief Magistrate Court granted 30 days of custodial orders to allow the extradition processes to be completed.

Kevin Kangethe, who was arrested while partying at an entertainment joint in Nairobi Westlands area, will be extradited to the US to face a murder trial. 

Kevin is alleged to have murdered Mbitu in Massachusetts on October 31, 2023, by inflicting multiple stabs on her face and neck before leaving her body in a locked automobile in a parking garage at Boston Logan Intn'l Airport. 

The suspect and the late Margaret Mbitu, a home healthcare aid in the town of Halifax, Massachusetts are believed to have been in a relationship before the suspect turned against her allegedly while on a trip to Lowell.

 The case will be mentioned on March 4, 2024, at Milimani Law Courts.

Following his arrest, the US thanked Kenya indicating that it was committed to working with the country to tackle all forms of crime.

"Embassy Nairobi commends the efforts of Kenyan law enforcement for apprehending Kenyan fugitive Kevin Kangethe, suspected to have murdered Margaret Mbitu in Massachusetts sometime between October 30 and November 4, 2023," the US Embassy in Nairobi Stated.

"United States law enforcement, the Kenyan Directorate of Criminal Investigations, and the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions have been working side by side to locate and capture the fugitive. The United States and Kenya are committed to strengthening law enforcement cooperation to apprehend criminal offenders, eliminate criminal activities, and advance justice."
