Gov't Clarifies Reports on Teacher Changes, New Placement Exam

In a post via its X platform, the Ministry flagged the claims that the KNEC was introducing a subsidiary placement examination by November this year.

The fake report claimed that KNEC was adopting a different ranking criteria for the exam. The report also claimed that Grade 9 would be shifted to the secondary level beginning in January 2025.

“JSS teachers to be relocated to the secondary school level to handle garde9, 10,11, 12 effective 2025 January,” the flagged report claimed.

It further claimed that a survey would be considered in content areas for secondary school and college categories as a matter of urgency to avoid further curriculum distortion.

"Consider an existing cluster of schools, national, extra county, and county schools to ease the transition,” the fake report added.

The clarification comes after KNEC opened its portal for students to register for the 2024 national exams.

In a notice, the examination body directed parents, candidates, and school heads to start registration of candidates set to sit for the Kenya Primary School Education Assessment (KPSEA), Kenya Intermediate Level Education Assessment (KILEA), and Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE).

The registration deadline for all national exams will be on March 29, 2024. KNEC warned that it would accept late registration.

"Heads of institutions are reminded to ensure that all eligible candidates are registered before March 29, 2024," KNEC stated.
