The African President died on Sunday morning aged 82. 

President William Ruto has mourned the death of Namibian President Hage Geingob. 

In a statement via his X handle on Sunday, February 4, Ruto eulogized Geingob as a distinguished leader who served Namibians with focus and dedication.

“I extend my deepest condolences and sympathy to the family and the people of Namibia following the death of President Hage Geingob. President Geingob was a distinguished leader who served the people of Namibia with focus and dedication,” read the statement in part.

Ruto also described President Geingob as a believer in a unified Africa who strongly promoted the continent’s voice and visibility at the global arena.

“May God give the people of Namibia strength and courage during this difficult period,” Ruto added.

Geingob died on Sunday morning aged 82 at Lady Pohamba Hospital where he was receiving medical treatment from his medical team.

The Namibian Presidency in a statement said President Geingob passed away with his wife Monica Geingos and children by his side.

“It is with utmost sadness and regret that I inform you that our beloved Dr. Hage G. Geingob, the President of the Republic of Namibia has passed on today, Sunday 4 February 2024 at around 00h04 at Lady Pohamba Hospital where he was receiving medical treatment from his medical team. At his side, was his dear wife Madame Monica Geingos and his children,” Acting President Nangolo Mbumba stated.

The late Namibian President was on January 8 diagnosed with cancer and was to travel to the US for a checkup.

Geingob has been serving as the Namibian president since 2015 and was currently in the second term.

Before becoming president Geingob served as the country’s prime minister.
