Editor's Review

RMS has consolidated the group’s sports news across all platforms and will be under the RMS Sports Centre.

The Royal Media Services (RMS) has announced the creation of the RMS Sports Centre.

In an internal memo by Group Editorial Director Linus Kaikai seen by nairobileo.co.ke on Tuesday, February 27, RMS consolidated the group’s sports news across all platforms and will be under the RMS Sports Centre.

“This means that sports news across our TV, Radio and Digital platforms shall be served by editors and reporters operating through and out of the RMS Sports Centre,” read the memo in part.

Kaikai also reorganized the sports team and promoted and appointed Young Muthomi as the Managing Editor, Radio News and Sports in charge of the RMS Sports Centre.

Muthomi’s new role will cut across editorial and administrative responsibilities.

At the same time, Isaac Swila has been promoted and appointed the Head of RMS Sports Centre in charge of coordinating sports coverage needs across all platforms. Swila will be reporting to Muthomi in the new role.

“The Head of RMS Sports Centre reports to the Managing Editor, Radio News and Sports,” Kaikai noted.

Further, he noted that all sports reporters will be based in the radio newsroom for effective coordination in the interim.

“Please join me in congratulating and extending our support to Young, Isaac and the entire RMS Sports Centre team as they begin this exciting journey into the future,” the memo added.

The changes come days after news anchor Sam Gituku was promoted to Editor, Quality, and Product Development at Royal Media Services (RMS).

"I am delighted to announce that Sam Gituku has been promoted to Editor, Quality and Product Development in line with the company's policy of recognizing and rewarding outstanding performance in a staffer's respective role," Kaikai announced.
