Samburu Governor Jonathan Lelelit has been summoned to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) Rift Valley regional headquarters in Nakuru over insecurity in the North Rift region.
Addressing the press on Tuesday, March 5, Governor Lelelit slammed the DCI for summoning him for the second time in less than a month saying it was a waste of time
“People are being killed every day, it is unfortunate that instead of us staying there to help people, we are being called for nonsense. If we were there, we would be assisting the security personnel,” said Lelelit.
He continued "Two days ago, a former police officer and an MCA were killed. Almost daily we have somebody killed and we are here wasting our time instead of being with our people."
The Samburu Governor noted that the DCI confiscated his phone for a full month, adding that they should have probed it within a week and given it back to him.

“They have taken my phone for the last month I don’t know what they are doing with it. They should have taken one week to check if there was anything in my phone and return it to me. This is just a circus,” Lelelit stated.
The UDA governor was on February among seven politicians summoned by the Rift Valley DCI officers over banditry attacks in the region.
Others were; Turkana Governor Jeremiah Lomorukai, Turkana Senator James Lomenen, Turkana South MP John Namoit, Kapenguria MP Samwel Mworoto, Kacheliba MP Titus Lote and David Pkosing of Pokot South.
The North Rift region has been experiencing renewed banditry attacks with dozens shot dead in the last few weeks.
Interior CS Kithure Kindiki announced on Monday that the government will deploy special forces to deal with the bandits.
"We are bringing in special forces to help us deal with the hardcore commanders of banditry," he said.
