“I am sorry for involving Mama Ngina Kenyatta in the last general elections politics."

Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua on Monday, March 25 apologised to former First Lady Mama Ngina Kenyatta over the fallout during the 2022 general elections.

Speaking during an interview with Kameme TV and Kameme FM at his Karen Residence, Gachagua expressed his displeasure on how the former First Lady was disrespected in the last general election.

The DP vowed to ensure no politician from the Mt Kenya region would insult Mama Ngina again.

“I am sorry for involving Mama Ngina Kenyatta in the last general elections politics. She is our mother. I therefore ask for forgiveness on behalf of our team for any inconvenience caused to her. I will never allow anyone to demean her or anyone from the region,” said Gachagua.

The second in command also directed Mt Kenya politicians not to attack former President Uhuru Kenyatta saying he should be respected as a son of the Central Region.

The DP called on Mt Kenya leaders to embrace unity and speak in one voice adding that they should learn from past divisions that affected the region.

At the same time, Gachagua said he supports the National Dialogue Committee (NADCO) report and its recommendations.

“The report is good. Initially, I had discomfort with it but after being convinced by President William Ruto I support it. The recommendations such as reconstitution of the electoral commission, return of the official leader of the opposition, and entrenching the position of Prime Cabinet Secretary in the Constitution are good for the country,” The DP said.

Gachagua further mentioned that the 'one man, one vote, and one shilling' principle will be addressed despite not being in the NADCO report.
