The accident comes days after a KDF chopper crashed in Elgeyo Marakwet claiming the lives of General Francis Ogolla and nine other military personnel.

 A Kenya Air Force officer on Sunday,  April 21 night passed away after being involved in a gruesome road accident at the Nyamonye area along Bondo-Usenge road in Siaya County. 

The Air Force officer who has been identified as Paytone Mitch Opiyo was carrying his brother Felix Opiyo from Usenge heading towards Bondo when collided with an oncoming motorcycle.

Opiyo died on the spot together with the other motorcycle rider who was identified as Richard Omondi.

The Kenya Air Force officer’s brother survived the accident together with Walter Aloo, the passenger who was carried by the other rider.

The two however sustained multiple leg injuries and were rushed to the Siaya County referral hospital for medical attention.

The bodies of Opiyo and Omondi have been taken to the Bondo sub-county hospital mortuary awaiting autopsy.

The accident comes days after a KDF chopper crashed in Elgeyo Marakwet claiming the lives of the Chief of Defence Forces (CDF) Francis Ogolla and nine other military personnel who were on board.

"Today at 2:20 pm, our nation suffered a tragic air accident in Elgeyo Marakwet. I am deeply saddened to announce the passing on of General Francis Omondi Ogolla, the Chief of the Kenya Defence Forces. Together with him in the crash were 11 other gallant military personnel, 9 who also passed on with him and 2 survivors," President William Ruto announced on Thursday, April 18.

The late CDF had left Nairobi to visit troops deployed in the North Rift under Operation Maliza Uhalifu, and to inspect the ongoing school renovation works in schools.

Ogolla was laid to rest on Sunday, April 21 at his home in Ng’iya village, Siaya County.
