The two trees fell near Imenti House blocking the entire Moi Avenue Road.

Motorists using Nairobi Central Business District routes have been left stranded after two trees fell along Moi Avenue.

According to preliminary reports, the trees fell on Wednesday morning April 24 owing to heavy rainfall experienced in the country.

The two trees fell near Imenti House blocking the entire Moi Avenue Road. Both incoming and outgoing traffic has been blocked by the huge trees.

It is not yet clear if the incident has caused destruction and left anyone with injuries.

However, motorists have been forced to find alternative routes to enter and get out of Nairobi CBD as the blocked section of the road serves thousands of public service vehicles.

The traffic diversion has led to congestion on other routes while leaving other motorists stranded.

Elsewhere, sections of the road along Thika Road have been rendered impassable following the ongoing heavy rainfall.

From photos and videos shared online, the underpasses along that busy highway have been majorly affected by the rains. The rain water has remained stagnant on the road making it difficult for motorists to manoeuvre.

Recently, Transport Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen revealed plans to set up a dam in Kiambu County to help collect the rainwater and also build proper drainage systems on the affected roads.

This is after residents raised concerns over rainwater filling the underpasses and paralysing transport.

"Because of the accidents and incidences on that road, we have requested partial budgetary support from the treasury and have negotiated with the contractor to, upon receiving the partial payment, resume site and complete the most critical sections for the sake of safety," Murkomen stated with the major target being James Gichuru - Rironi Road.

Mombasa Road has also been affected by the rains exposing the poor drainage system in the country.

In Machakos County, River Athi broke its banks forcing the water to overflow on Namanga Road rendering the section of the road impassable.
