Cracks have emerged in the Jubilee Party over its recent decision to oust Deputy President William Ruto as its Deputy Party Leader.

Over a week ago, the party leadership announced that the Ruto had been ousted, adding that the decision now rests with the party leader President Uhuru Kenyatta.

As we await President Kenyatta’s decision, it has now emerged that a section of allies share a different opinion on the ouster.

Some want it to be done immediately, while others want it postponed and used as a trump card in the future.

The disagreement between the two factions has forced the party to convene a special meeting today to review the ouster of its deputy party leader among other issues.

“Jubilee NMC will meet tomorrow at 11am to recap recommendations of ejection of the deputy party leader as we await convening of NEC by the party leader who can equally delegate to the party chairman,” Jubilee vice-chairman David Murathe said.

Kenyans are eagerly waiting for the meeting’s outcome to determine the way forward for the DP.

While announcing his removal, Jubilee Party Secretary-General noted that Ruto’s fate now lies in the hands of President Kenyatta.

“The NMC discussed the matter and resolved to remove the DP as per the party constitution. The matter is active, we have the recommendations of NMC and now only waiting for the party leader to convene a NEC meeting to deliberate on the matter,” Tuju said.

It is worth noting that if successfully removed, Ruto will maintain his DP position since it is in no way connected to his position at the party.

He can only lose his deputy president post if impeached by Parliament as stipulated by the Constitution.
