Senator Khalwale Cornered in Kisumu, Forced to Pay Protesters to Be Allowed to Pass

Kakamega Senator and Majority Whip in the Senate Boni Khalwale was on Thursday cornered by protesters while on his way out of the airport in Kisumu.  

The Senator in a statement on Facebook said he was forced to part with cash to be allowed to pass the heavily barricaded roads. 

Khalwale revealed that protestors have taken charge of a major road in the town and blocked it using stones and rocks.

"Our Lakeland neighbourhood is truly troubled. Roads in Kisumu are barricaded by stones, rocks, burning tyres, and much more. To thread through from the Airport, I've been forced to buy my way past the roadblocks," he said.

It is not clear where the Senator was heading but it could be presumed that he was on his way to his home in Kakamega.

Kisumu residents on Thursday morning took to the streets to heed calls by Azimio leader Raila Odinga.

Raila has declared demos on Mondays and Thursdays. 

Among the affected road is the Kisumu-Kakamega highway which was blocked by protesters who also lit bonfires.

Kisumu is one of the counties that have been consistent in holding demos.

Other counties also affected by demos are Homa Bay, Siaya, and Migori.
